Elizabeth F. Shores, M.A.P.H.
Associate Director for Research, Communications, and National Initiatives

Elizabeth F. Shores, M.A.P.H., of Little Rock, Arkansas, coordinates the Early Childhood Atlas and other national initiatives for the MSU Early Childhood Institute, as well as the institute's research projects and communications.

Before joining the MSU Early Childhood Institute in 2004, Shores was a senior editor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. She also has worked for the Southern Early Childhood Association; as a contract researcher and editor for state and federal agencies; and for newspapers in Birmingham, Boston, and Little Rock.

Shores was editor of the journal Dimensions of Early Childhood from 1990 to 1995. She also is the co-author, with Cathy Grace, Ed.D., of The Portfolio Book: A Step-by-Step Guide for Teachers (Gryphon House, 1998).

She holds degrees in history from Boston University and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Her book, On Harper's Trail; Roland McMillan Harper, Pioneering Botanist of the Southern Coastal Plain, is forthcoming from University of Georgia Press.

Shores and her husband have two grown sons.
