Connie Clay is the project director for the Mississippi Child Care Quality Step System. She previously served as project director for the Kellogg Rebuilding After Katrina Project and Katrina Recovery: Child Care System Recovery and Restoration Program. Connie holds a master's degree in child development from the University of Southern Mississippi. Her experience includes serving as a Child Development Associate (CDA) instructor at the University of Southern Mississippi. She has owned and operated a child care program in Hattiesburg and taught kindergarten in Delray Beach, Florida. Clay provided training and technical assistance to child care providers in Mississippi while working with the Child Care Assistance Relief Effort. She also worked with Friends of Children of Mississippi, providing training and technical assistance to Head Start teachers. She served as project coordinator for Project PREPARE at the Institute for Disabilities Studies at the University of Southern Mississippi. That project provided resources for inclusion of children with disabilities. Her experience at the Institute for Disabilities Studies also included serving as early intervention training specialist for the Mississippi Infant Toddler Technical Assistance Project. Clay is a past president of Mississippi Early Childhood Association. She and her husband live in Madison, MS. She has two children.
