Sesame Street to Broadcast Special Hurricane
Katrina Episodes Sept. 12-16
SEPT. 7, 2005 | To give families, teachers, and shelter staff
material for helping children affected by Hurricane Katrina, Sesame
Workshop will air a special five-part series of the television
program Sesame Street about a hurricane hitting the beloved Sesame
Street neighborhood.
The episodes, to air Sept. 12-16, will reassure children and help
them learn to cope with the stress of the hurricane’s aftermath.
Sesame Workshop encourages teachers, parents, shelter staff, and
others to record the episodes for repeated use. (Recordings of the
television program may be used for one year from the original
broadcast dates without breaking copyright laws if they are used for
educational purposes).
Local schedules for the program are available at a special
Internet section of the Sesame Workshop
web site, along with
information about helping children cope. The site includes streaming
video spots, book lists, and advice for parents in Spanish and
English, and a detailed synopsis of the special hurricane episodes.
