Common Core Standards for pre-kindergarten classrooms
February 7, 2012 | The Mississippi state Board of Education has approved new Early Learning Standards for Classrooms Serving Three-year-old Children and Early Learning Standards for Classrooms Serving Four-year-old Children. These standards for English language arts and mathematics are aligned with the kindergarten Common Core State Standards and will replace the Early Learning Guidelines for language and mathematics.
The Early Childhood Institute was awarded a grant by the Mississippi Department of Education to develop the Early Learning Standards. A team of early childhood experts from across the state met in the summer of 2011 to collaborate on the creation of the standards. Team members included prekindergarten and kindergarten teachers, Head Start experts, university faculty, early childhood professionals and elementary school administrators.
The Early Learning Standards are available from the Mississippi of Department of Education website
