Thank You, One and All! Post-Katrina Materials Drive Is Complete; Monetary Gifts Still Welcome

Hundreds of young children in the Mississippi Katrina region have returned to safe, high-quality early childhood programs thanks to donations to Embrace Mississippi’s Children.

MARCH 31, 2006 | Please send no more books, supplies, or equipment for early childhood programs in Mississippi’s Hurricane Katrina disaster area – Embrace Mississippi’s Children has closed warehouses in Tupelo and Jackson, Miss., after distributing tons of donated materials.

Dozens of early childhood centers on Mississippi’s Gulf Coast are open again thanks to hundreds of generous donations to Embrace.

The Mississippi State University Early Childhood Institute (ECI) continues to assess needs of early childhood programs in inland counties of the disaster area. Embrace can still accept monetary contributions to finish the rebuilding job in all disaster counties; please donate online or by check.

ECI soon will publish a report of contributions and expenditures for rebuilding as well as the current status of the child care infrastructure in the Katrina region of Mississippi.
