New Workbook Will Help Mississippi Child Care Directors Prepare for Quality Ratings

NOV. 30, 2007 | A new workbook from the Mississippi State University Early Childhood Institute should help directors of Mississippi early childhood programs earn state quality ratings.

The workbook, Earn Your Stars!; The Step-by-Step Workbook for Child Care Directors in the Mississippi Child Care Quality Step System, is free and available online. Centers that enroll in the Mississippi Child Care Quality Step System will receive complete copies of the print edition.

The workbook contains step-by-step instructions for earning ratings of 1-Star to 5-Stars and numerous optional forms for child care directors to use in planning quality improvements.

The institute published the workbook with funding from the Mississippi Department of Human Services, Office for Children and Youth, as part of a project to support design, development, and implementation of the quality rating system. The system is in effect in four of the state’s planning and development districts: East Central, Golden Triangle, North Central, and North East.

Cathy Grace, Ed.D., director of the MSU Early Childhood Institute, and Elizabeth F. Shores, M.A.P.H., wrote the workbook. Lynn Bell handled design and production. Gail Lindsey, Ed.D., Charlene Smith, and Tyler Cummings assisted in preparation of the workbook.
