Early Literacy Corps The Mississippi Early Literacy Corps (MELC) is designed around a partnership between Mississippi State University and selected communities in MS that enables children in targeted counties attending public kindergarten, licensed child care centers and Head Start, additional tutorial assistance from AmeriCorps members through service in the MELC. This tutorial program focuses on assisting children to acquire the skills necessary to be successful readers.
